Broken Lands RPG
A downloadable book
Broken Lands: Adventures between Law and Chaos is a medieval fantasy role-playing game created by Carlos Ferrer that sets the action in a world divided by religious struggles and subjected to the ambition of the gods. Their eternal conflict keeps the mortals who worship them in a constant political and social tension. In the historical moment that serves as setting for the game, this pressure is about to explode the balance of forces that had been maintained for almost two centuries, and a new and devastating war looms over the known world. The gods are getting ready to gather forces and arrange their pieces for the coming confrontation, making use of their human vassals.
The game moves away from the clichés of Tolkenian fantasy to approach the work of other classic authors such as Robert E. Howard, Fritz Leiber and, above all, Michael Moorcock, exploiting themes such as the struggle against destiny, moral conflicts, the desire for freedom or the plurality of worlds in the multiverse, and adding elements of dark fantasy, horror and even social realism.
The Broken Lands are part of a Multiverse, which the player characters will be able to explore during their adventures. There are gods of Law and Chaos locked in eternal conflict trying to manipulate mortals to achieve their ends. There are gods of the elements and elemental spirits, demons of Chaos and mechanical devices of Law. And, of course, there are also dragons.
The Broken Lands universe allows for a wide variety of characters and play styles, from action and adventure stories to the investigation of mysterious events, from the exploration of fantastic places to intrigues and conspiracies. The rules system emphasizes the personality and motivations of the player characters, resulting in a narrative game experience with interesting mechanics.

Introduction. Through a series of short stories linked together, the game environment of the Broken Lands is depicted, the three major powers of the known world are introduced, and a beginning of the meta-plot is sketched.
Chapter 1: The World. Contains a history of the Broken Lands from the origin of the world to the present day, as well as a detailed description of each of the peoples and kingdoms that comprise them (a total of 15). The journey through the Broken Lands is made thanks to the travel diary of Fenir the Cautious, a merchant from the distant Solar Empire. It concludes with a report sent to the Scarlet Lady about the Multiverse and the different theories about its existence.
Chapter 2: System. The operation of the basic die roll for the resolution of actions is explained, with all its variants, such as opposed, open or extended rolls. The operation of the characteristics, modifiers and skills, as well as the Fate and Fortune points are discussed. Another section is dedicated to the Interpretative Guides: Passions, Motivation, Lies and Personality Traits. It also discusses the rules of burdening and wounds, health and healing.
Chapter 3: Combat. Begins with the division of time into fight scenes and the determination of initiative. The rules for the resolution of actions in combat are exposed, with numerous examples of how to carry them out. Movement and the several of the 22 maneuvers available in the Core Rules Book to adventurers are also discussed. The effects of the critical and critical failures are described.
Starter Adventure: Hearts and Masks. "Hearts and Masks" is a short adventure that can be completed in a session of approximately four hours of play. Associated with the module are four pregenerated characters, whose characteristics are included in the digital download. Their personal histories make them especially suited to be involved in the story, but the storyteller can easily adapt the plot to play with different adventurers.

2 beautiful full color maps of both the Geographical and Political Map of the Broken Lands (in spanish).
